Water-system startup and household records

Completion should include safe operation, a relevant performance check and clear service instructions.

Document what was installed

Keep model and serial numbers, manuals, invoices, scope, warranty and photographs. Identify the main shutoff, treatment bypass and any untreated branch. Record the provider’s contact details and clarify which party handles service.

Verify the intended result

A softener should be checked using hardness and its programmed settings. A filter should be verified according to its target and documented claim. A TDS reading alone cannot prove every contaminant is reduced. Ask for leak inspection, flushing or sanitization requirements and the conditions under which the results were obtained.

Plan service while details are fresh

Save replacement part numbers, service dates, any salt dose or capacity settings and the next review. Ask what symptoms justify stopping use, bypassing the system under its instructions or contacting support. Leave the equipment accessible. A clear maintenance plan is part of owning the installation rather than a detail to reconstruct after a problem.

Review the installation checklist and ownership guides.
