What the dated report tells you

The Highlands Ranch Water 2026 Water Quality Report covers January through December 2025 monitoring for public system CO0118015. It also includes information for wholesale systems. Read the section matching the supplier on your water bill. A report describes monitored public-system conditions for its stated period; it is not a sample from your kitchen tap and does not replace a current advisory.

Hardness is a separate equipment question

The utility’s hardness guidance gives a usual range of 11–13 grains per gallon, approximately 188–222 mg/L. Its own classification lists 9–18 grains per gallon as hard. The district does not remove hardness during treatment. Use this range to understand the topic, then measure actual hardness before selecting or programming a softener. A TDS meter does not measure hardness directly.

Where the reported water comes from

The 2026 report describes snowmelt and surface-water sources including the South Platte River, Plum Creek and Dad Clark Gulch, together with groundwater sources. This is a public-system source description. Do not assume a particular neighborhood, private well or individual tap has the same mineral reading or blend on a given day.

Read results without overstating safety

Compare each detected substance with the definitions, units, limits and dates printed in the appropriate report section. Hardness and taste do not establish a health-related contaminant. Conversely, a system report cannot certify every private plumbing component or a current property-specific concern. Ask the utility about current advisories and use appropriate laboratory sampling for a specific concern.

Softening and outdoor water

The utility cautions about applying sodium-softened water to irrigation and discusses chloride associated with softener discharge. Ask the installer to confirm the irrigation bypass, drain connection, regeneration settings and applicable requirements. Do not infer a universal softener ban or a property-specific permission from this guide.

A useful next step

For scale, use an appropriate hardness test and review softener fit. For taste or odor, define the treatment target before selecting filtration.
