Water pressure and flow before filtration

A treatment system needs adequate service flow without unacceptable pressure loss.

Pressure and flow are separate

Static pressure is measured with fixtures closed; pressure while water is moving can be lower. Flow describes gallons per minute delivered through the plumbing. A home can show acceptable static pressure but poor delivery when several fixtures operate. Record the actual symptom and whether it appeared before or after treatment equipment was installed.

Ask what was sized

The quote should identify the expected peak fixture demand, equipment service flow and pressure loss under that demand. Check the main pipe, fittings, cartridge condition, bypass and valve configuration with a qualified provider. A larger nominal grain capacity does not automatically mean adequate service flow. Do not raise a regulator or change pressure settings from generic online advice.

Make startup measurable

Request documented leak checks and a comparison of pressure/flow with the equipment in service and bypass where safe and appropriate. A new system should have accessible valves and a maintenance route. If the symptom affects the whole property or follows a utility event, consult the supplier rather than assuming the filter caused it. Keep the measured conditions with the system records.
