Tankless versus tank reverse osmosis
Compare delivery flow, pressure needs, power, cabinet space and maintenance rather than assuming one format is always better.
Follow the water demand
A tank system stores a limited drinking-water supply and refills after use. A tankless system produces water while it is requested and may need electrical power and adequate feed conditions. Ask how either design will handle filling cooking pots and serving a refrigerator or ice maker. The rated daily membrane output is not necessarily the faucet flow you experience.
Check the installation space
Measure cabinet clearance, faucet location, drain route, shutoff access and power availability. A storage tank occupies space, but a tankless chassis and filter-change clearance do too. Ask about noise, idle behavior, flushing cycles and what remains available during a power interruption. Any drain and plumbing connections should follow applicable requirements and the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Compare ownership cost
Ask about proprietary filters, membrane replacement, service accessibility and the claimed treated-water capacity. Reject universal zero-waste or maintenance-free promises unless the exact operating claim is documented and applicable. Choose on actual household use and the model’s supported reduction claims. For Highlands Ranch Water customers, utility reporting still does not replace testing for a specific household concern.
