Plan filter replacement before buying
A low equipment price can hide recurring cartridge, media, membrane and service costs.
Itemize consumables
Ask for exact cartridge sizes, model numbers, rated capacities and replacement prices. Determine which parts are common formats and which are proprietary. A calendar estimate may be a useful starting point, but feed water, gallons treated and operating conditions can alter service needs. Require the reason for each replacement interval rather than a vague annual maintenance fee.
Separate parts from labor
Compare the cost of consumables, diagnostic visits, cleaning/sanitization, media handling and any disposal charges. Ask whether a warranty requires documented professional service or designated replacement parts. Check who can supply parts if the original seller stops servicing the area. A long tank warranty and inexpensive filter replacement are separate claims.
Keep the system serviceable
Leave clearance to remove housings or reach tank controls. Identify shutoff, bypass, drainage and safe depressurization instructions. Save startup results so later performance can be compared using the relevant measurement. Maintenance protects the equipment’s intended role; it does not automatically prove contaminant removal without the correct performance evidence.
